Subject:Looking for someone in Melbourne, Derbyshire
Posted by:lasaim.
Time:10:49 am.
Hello!

This may seem ultimately silly, but here's the thing.

I have a 12 year old daughter. Her birthday is next month. Her name is Melbourne.

I'm on a quest to get postcards sent to my daughter from the cities all over the world called "Melbourne". I've already got some Aussie's willing to send postcards, so I thought I'd also try here. I'm also going to try to get some from Florida and Canada.

Any kind of postcard will do, though a picture of something local would be great. It would just be great if it was postmarked in Melbourne.

We live in the US. I'm not sure how much international postage is for a postcard, but I'd be willing to send you one from Seattle, WA, USA if you'd like.

If there is anyone here who would like to help, please email me at lasaim at yahoo dot com.

Thank you!

Subject:mobile question
Posted by:stephenl.
Time:2:56 pm.
Just found this community and figured you'd be perfect for answering my question. I live in New York, and I'm going to be spending a few months living with my girlfriend in Glasgow this winter. I'll be there long enough to want to have my own mobile phone there, but I know most US phones are locked, and I can't just pop a SIM card in one.

I've got Sprint in the US, but I'm no longer under contract, so I can switch to any other US carrier. I know I have to get a dual- or tri-band phone. But any advice as to which carriers are better at letting you use a British SIM card?

Also, you long-distance relationship people should know about an amazing US $200 ticket from Newark to London that begins Nov 15 (though you have to buy the ticket very soon). It comes to $300 with taxes, but still an amazing deal.

Thanks for your help,

stephenl

I hope that this is not too silly of a question. I am American, but spent the last 2 months in the UK doing a summer study abroad program through Arizona State University. While I was there, I totally fell in love with the store Boots. I guess you could say Boots and I are now having a long distance relationship. Well basically, I love Boots so much and am addicted to some of their products! I tried to buy them on their website, but they only accept UK credit cards and only ship to UK addresses. I am looking for people willing to buy me some Boots loot and send it to me! I know thats sort of weird, but I figured it was worth a try! Thanks in advance, and sorry if this was really annoying and/or off-topic.

Subject:"Foreigners" getting hassled or no?
Posted by:angryside.
Time:5:52 pm.
Hi. A friend of mine is going to be living and studying in central London for a few months. His native country has a pretty wide diversity of racial backgrounds, and people there rarely hassle each other about these issues.

He looks something like Keanu Reeves in "Little Buddha", minus the eye makeup and the ancient Indian clothes, but usually with a short goatee. He usually wears his hair in a pony tail. He speaks English quite well but it's not his native language. He's not at all interested in religion or politics.

http://musimax.altervista.org/Cinemax/film.htm

Somebody mentioned that it's not completely unknown for foreigners in the UK to get hassled in the streets and clubs for not being "English". As this kind of thing never happens in my friend's country, he didn't think that such a thing was really possible.

So: Young Keanu Reeves, going to a lot of music clubs in various parts of London -- What are the real chances of him having any trouble, and what should he do to avoid it?

Thanks for your help.

Subject:cheap London food

A friend of mine is going to be spending a couple of months as a poor student in London.

We were talking about this and I realized that I have pretty much no idea what people in London in this situation eat (except for Indian take-away).

Can anybody enlighten me on this? What are typical low-low-budget food items? Thanks.

Hi my name is Audrey, I'm 18 and I live in Texas. Well I suppose I'm in the same boat as the rest of you. Last summer, I met a wonderful exchange student named William and we ended up falling in love. Great idea right? I really do care for him, but it's not easy being so far away and all so we decided that we should call it quits. But it's been almost a year and I still miss him and I really want to be with him but I'm just not sure what to do. I mean it's pretty pathetic, I don't even want to go out with boys here and my friends say I was happier and funnier when we were together.

If anyone whos going through the same thing wants to talk I would really like someone else to relate to.

I forgot to mention: I was in a relationship with a very good friend(well...now he is) of mine (via my roleplaying site) for a good 5 months, and then, we broke it off, because, either he or I got too bored with each other. He was British, an awesome friend he is now. I went out with his friend for a long time, even got to meet him once or twice, and then, we broke it off, because he found a girlfriend who suited his attitudes more.

So, those are my issues.

All right. Since that was totally conformist, and I can't usually stand that, I'll go ahead and introduce myself. I was born in NY, NY, to a white father and a black mother, so I'm totally diverse. Actually, the only things I'm not are Russian and Asian (Chinese, Japanese, or any other Pacific Rim country). I'm in love with the French, the English, and Italy. It shouldn't surprise you when I say I take French, will take Italian next year, and I'm fluent in some English type things. I have English and French friends, and I have plans to live in England.

Well, if you're interested in contacting me, all of my info is just a click away!

Hello. My name is Morgen. I'm new to the group, obviously...

I'm a 15 year old Scot/Irish American, with the greatest love for Scotland, and Europe in general. In fact, in three years when I graduate, I'll be moving to Glasgow, and going to university to major in both theatre and European History.

I joined this group because I'm interested in a US UK relationship, maybe not right now, but seeing as I'm moving to Europe soon, I don't want to get too involved with someone in the states, and then leave them (assuming the relationship lasts). I also joined because everyone seems nice.

Yeah, so that's my weak introduction...

I've been asked to explain myself, so that's what I'm gonna do... (bear in mind that I'm no good at spilling my guts)

My name is Si (22/M/OMGLOLZ!!1), and I'm from Essex, in the UK (about an hour due east of London). Like most of the members of this community (I'm guessing), I met someone online. She's from the great US state of Wyoming. We met over at DeviantArt, exchanging silly comments on silly pictures we made. Nothing happened... until one day my MSN popped up with a message from a username I didn't recognise. "Who are you?" I asked. It was her. We talked for hours about nothing and everything. It's amazing how two people can just *click* like that. This was back in April, but it wasn't until September (having missed only about three or four nights in all that time without talking to each other) that I got the guts up to say that it was something more than just friendship. We both knew what it was, we didn't need to say it, but saying it kinda made it official. Life is good, I'm happier than I've been for a loooong time (perhaps ever), but why is the Ocean so big? We haven't met each other in the flesh, so we have to make do with webcams, IMs and phone calls (via Skype). I'm counting on the lottery to buy me that plane ticket, so I can hold her hand and watch the snowfall.

Okay, I've run out of things to say. I hope this post doesn't freak her out.

Wow! Look at this lovely little community I've stumbled upon! And here I was thinking I was the only one in a US/UK relationship...

Just a short little intro...I'm Christine and I'm 16 years old, living in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. My boyfriend Shaun is 18 and lives in Seaford, East Sussex, England. We met online and have been together for about 1 year 8 months. We've met in real life twice, but spent a total of two months together (2 weeks last December, 6 weeks last summer). We hope to have him move out here to be with me after he finishes his A levels. =)

It's so nice to see that I'm not alone in this whole transatlantic thing. A lot of kids my age don't understand it and think that I'm crazy and reckless for trusting someone that doesn't live here. But I'm very happy in this relationship and wouldn't change it for the world. =D

Any successful long-distance relationships out there? Anyone? Anyone? Bueler?

Oh, and has anyone seen the show NY-LON? About the girl who lives in New York and the guy that lives in London...I know it's showing in the UK, but I don't think it's shown here. Is it any good? Shaun said he watched a couple episodes, but it depressed him because the guy from London was rich and could fly out to see the girl whenever he wanted....which is pretty much opposite of our situation...

Anyway yes! I'll be off to finish my homework now...buh-bye! *waves enthusiastically*

my dorm has a visitor regulation. visitors can only stay 3 nights consecutively. garry wants to come for 3 weeks at the least in february. i told him if he stayed for less time it might be better, but he doesn't want to do that. my dorm is like a motel which means noone really monitors what i do and don't do, or who comes in and out. the only thing is that the rooms are arranged in clusters by gender so all the girls share a bathroom, and all the boys share a seperate bathroom. the only giveaway that he would be with me would be the potty thing, and honestly we can work around that. i don't have a roommate. chances are i could get away with it, and a girl who was a former ra last semester told me that if i am in pencader and in a single i shouldnt worry cos the rules are mainly for people with roommates. yet, at least two seperate people have told me that they will also apply to me because garry will be a liability... hotels are too expensive. it will be over a year before we see each other again if he doesn't come... :: sigh :: what should i do? what would YOU guys do? ask questions if u need something clarified...

Subject:xpost-how many long distance relationships actually succeed???
Posted by:machaleur.
Time:3:02 am.

i was just wondering how many long distance relationships actually succeed??? garry and i going on almost 4 years now...

like statistically. for example, i have read that couples that live together before marrying have like a 60 percent chance of divorcing...

i mean a statistic is just a statistic, and there is still another 40 that are workin it... i was just curious though...

here are some uplifting sites that i found!!!

if anyone else can find any, please share!!!!

http://www.etoile.co.uk/Love/Long.html

http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/s/a/sar242/ldr2.html    (experiences of other people in ldr's)

http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/1039.html

in one link the author says something about how love isnt about statistics and if the relationship doesnt work or something, then the statistics can be used as an excuse... i suppose they are right in a way... i still want to know though :)
